    Feature Prioritization

Feature Prioritization is the process of evaluating and ranking product features based on business value, customer impact, effort, and strategic objectives.

Also known as: Feature Ranking, Product Prioritization, Requirement Prioritization

    Full Definition

Feature Prioritization helps product managers, business analysts, and stakeholders determine which features should be developed first to maximize business outcomes and customer value. By assessing factors such as customer demand, strategic alignment, implementation effort, technical feasibility, and expected return on investment, organizations can allocate resources effectively and build products that deliver measurable impact while minimizing wasted development effort.

    Key Dimensions

    • Business value and strategic alignment
    • Customer impact and user demand
    • Implementation effort and complexity
    • Revenue and growth potential
    • Technical feasibility and dependencies
    • Risk reduction and compliance requirements
    • Time-to-market considerations

    Prioritisation Frameworks

    RICE Framework

Prioritizes features based on Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort.

    MoSCoW Method

Categorizes features into Must Have, Should Have, Could Have, and Won't Have.

    Kano Model

Evaluates features based on their ability to satisfy or delight customers.

    Value vs Effort Matrix

Ranks features by comparing expected value against implementation effort.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

    • Prioritizing features based solely on stakeholder opinions
    • Ignoring customer feedback and usage data
    • Failing to consider implementation effort
    • Not aligning feature decisions with business objectives
    • Attempting to build too many features at once
