How do you prioritize the product backlog?

Prioritize using a weighted framework (e.g. value vs. effort, or WSJF) against a single source of truth — the product goal — and revisit ranking every sprint as new information arrives.

    Full Answer

I prioritize against the current product goal first, then apply a lightweight scoring model — value vs. effort is usually sufficient for most teams, while WSJF (Weighted Shortest Job First) suits larger programs with multiple competing initiatives.

Critically, prioritization is not a one-time ranking exercise — I revisit the order every sprint planning session as customer feedback, technical constraints, and business priorities shift. I also make the rationale visible to the team so "why is this above that" is never a mystery.
